Things are just starting for the Business Club.
After selecting a new president between semesters, the Bakersfield College Business Club hopes to reorganize and establish itself for active service in the community.
“We’re trying to get new people,” said Dominick Martin, the club’s president.
With approximately 20 members, the club is looking for people with various talents and strengths to help in its effort to relate the community to the business world. In cooperation with the Students in Free Enterprise organization, the club intends to help create awareness of the importance of business within the college and local schools in the Bakersfield area.
Possible ideas include a video production series that would teach subjects like personal finance, real estate and investing to run on the Bakersfield College Learning Channel, a radio show that would field calls from the community, a mobile town show in which to teach interactive classes to elementary students, creating various conferences with subjects of business and leadership or helping various high schools with their virtual business ventures, he said.
The club is a part of SIFE, CEOs of various companies judge these events.
“It’s a chance for a really big company to know who we are,” said Martin.
If students are interested in joining the BC Business Club, meetings are held Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in Business 7.
