The comedy “40 Days and 40 Nights” may be filled with sex, but not much else.
Josh Hartnett plays Matt Sullivan, a depressed man who has trouble finding a mate, while obsessing over being dumped by his ex-girlfriend, Nicole, played by Vinessa Shaw.
Hartnett consistently seeks advice from his brother, who happens to be a priest in the making. He then comes to the conclusion that sex is getting in the way of his relationships and vows to have no sexual interactions or gratification for Lent.
He gets no support from friends when they start placing bets on what day he may fail.
To make things worse, he meets an extraordinary girl named Erica, played by Shannyn Sossamon, who he cannot resist.
Hartnett tries to find many types of solutions to get his mind off sex, but finds many obstacles along the way.
The movie has quite a few funny moments, but it still does not hit the mark as other comedies do.
The movie takes realistic moments and pushes them to the next level, overdoing everything. But its flaws probably are ignored due to the many sexual moments and nude scenes.
If you like sex scenes, you’ll enjoy this movie. But if you like acting, talent or plot, plan on seeing something else.
