Spring fling takes on a different flavor for the 2007 spring semester. The slogan of this year’s event is “Surviving College to Better Serve Humanity.”
The Student Government Association’s Activities Board, headed by Activities Liaison Sarah Cuellar, has set up arrangements with local and international charity organizations.
The two local charities, the Bakersfield Rescue Mission and the Center for Battered Women and Children, were selected based on their importance to the Bakersfield area.
“BC is such a protected environment; students are not open to what is going on in Bakersfield, especially the east side,” says Cuellar.
Also involved is Random Acts of Kindness for Troops. Cuellar explained, “Students can give a gram to a fallen or injured soldier with their donated money. The money goes back to the family or the hospital bills.”
Spring Fling will also be supporting UNICEF, with drawings for various prizes, according to the Spring Fling website, www.myspace.com/collegesurvivor.
Spring Fling week is from March 26-29. Online elections for student government will take place at that time.
