Students returning from previous semesters may have noticed the new blue letters affixed on Bakersfield College buildings, and new students have pondered their meanings.
Amber Chiang, director of marketing and public relations, said that the letters, as well as the new maps placed on campus, were because of an “overwhelming need to have identification. It can be confusing for students to find their way when the buildings are only identified by initials. Now the initials match their schedules,” Chiang said.
According to Chiang, the funding for the letters and maps came from the district facilities and has been a project that has been in the works for three years. The reason no news was released was because no one knew when the project was going to be finalized, and the approval came abruptly.
While some may be perplexed because the letters are Cal State Bakersfield blue and not BC red, Chiang explained, “Blue is a more easily identifiable color, and red can be difficult to read at certain times of the day. Also, blue already matched the existing letters on the library.”
