There is a new club on campus and they are spreading the word to “go green!”
The Go Green Club (G.C.) is a new club wanting to encourage fellow students to recycle and be conservative. Reminding students that there is only one planet, and everyone should do their part to help keep it clean.
The club’s mission statement states that they only want to improve and help the community and are “seeking a new change for a positive lifestyle,” says the club’s President, Rosa Ayala.
When asked if the G.C. has any events planned for the semester Ayala commented, “The upcoming event that we have is the Garden Fest. We already have a table and we are going to do a fundraiser. We are planning on selling plants and making decorations and putting those up for sale too.”
The G.C is all about recycling awareness. Earth Day is right around the corner with its arrival on Apr.22 this year; the club has some plans in mind.
“On Earth Day we are going to bring in a guest speaker from Kern Green. We also want to show a film about recycling and the only requirement to come to it is to bring any recyclable. We would also like to get recycling bins and place them on campus because…we don’t have any” says Ayala.
If you are interested in joining, the club has meetings the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Ayala comments, “We are going to be starting our community service projects this Friday. Each Friday we are going to come and pick up trash and set up recycle bins in each building on campus. That is going to be part of our community service. We are always thinking of other ideas as well.”
Go Green Club really wants to share the importance of cleaning and taking care of your local community.
Ayala says that, “All you need to do is give us a contact like an email address or phone number and we will return with all the information to get you started. We are on Facebook so you should go and like us!”
