It was time to celebrate good times at the Renegade Event Center on Thursday Oct 19. From 3-6 pm students had the chance to sing their hearts out on the BC karaoke stage at the Y2K Karaoke homecoming event.
The Office of Student Life hosted the Y2K Karaoke event as part of a series of events to celebrate Bakersfield College’s 2023 Homecoming. The Y2K karaoke event encouraged students to come out and show their school pride by singing all their favorite songs, whether it was a throwback or one of today’s hits.
To get on stage and sing your favorite songs all students had to do was fill out a slip of paper with their name and the title of the song and get ready to sing. Some students sang songs such as “Y.M.C.A” by The Village People, “Mariposa” by Mana, “Hand In Glove” by The Smiths, and “Are You Bored Yet?” by Wallows.
According to the Office of Student Life, this event is one of many to showcase a “decade of progress and innovation.” They also said it was inspired by a “decade where many thought the world would be challenged by a global catastrophe but ultimately persevered.” The inspiration for the theme also comes at a time where the community is coming back together after lock-downs from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Not only was this event a fun way to celebrate BC’s 2023 homecoming, but also an opportunity to de-stress in the middle of the semester.
Students and staff in attendance at the Y2K Karaoke event and other homecoming events were encouraged to share their pride and pictures on social media with #BCY2KHomecoming and #BCSGARenegades.
