Dia De Los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in many Latin American countries. However, many do not realize that dancing is a large part of the holiday. Bakersfield College hosted an event, located in the General Science plaza, to educate students and share a bit of the culture tradition.
With a pan dulce dessert table of conchas and other treats, a small dancing area, a speaker system playing songs like “Suavemente” by Elvis Crespo, and some attendees dressed in holiday-inspired attire, the event was both exciting and inspiring to behold.
Though it was sparsely attended, one of the event organizers stated that they hoped to make it a bigger occasion in 2024. She said they planned to add authentic Dia De Los Muertos face paintings and several other things to bring people out. Another organizer said she hoped to share the Latin culture here at BC.
