Many students have gathered at the CC building to celebrate their achievements. Over 100 students are transferring to Cal State, UCs, and some outside of the state. About 81 students are mainly transferring to Cal State University Bakersfield in the Fall to complete their associate’s degrees and get their bachelor’s degrees.
The event was a true celebration of our students’ accomplishments. The evening commenced with a warm registration a delightful dinner, and a sweet dessert for our esteemed guests. A toast with apple cider added a touch of warmth and camaraderie to the atmosphere, making everyone feel part of this special occasion.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome speech from the program manager and student success tech, Nicole Avina, then with the director of Transfer Pathways, Ben Perlado, and finally, the president of Bakersfield College, Dr. Jerry Fliger.
About three guest speakers from the main campus, CSUB, and Berkeley were from the science departments.
During the Transfer Spotlight event, Ellie Camarena, our transfer scholar, captivated the audience with her inspiring speech. She addressed the graduates and current students and shared her journey of overcoming various challenges and obstacles to reach where she is today.
Ellie emphasized the importance of perseverance, hard work, and determination and how they are crucial in achieving success. She encouraged everyone to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough, and to never give up on their dreams and aspirations.
Ellie’s speech was motivational and instilled hope and inspiration in the hearts of all who listened. Her story is a testament to the fact that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
As Ellie prepares to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona, she urges everyone to continue pursuing their goals and never let setbacks or failures define their future. Her speech reminded everyone that success is not just about achieving one’s goals but also about the journey and lessons learned along the way.
The ceremony ended up being shorter than expected as it was wrapped up quickly to recognize our transfer students. They were asked to proceed to get their pictures taken while their names were being called and received their medals. Lastly, a toast was given along with some closing remarks to bid farewell to the students who will continue their education journey in the universities they have been accepted to.
