On Monday, the Bakersfield College chapter of the Native American Cultural Awareness Club held an event in front of Campus Center. Consisting mostly of local drummers and dancers, the purpose of the event was to educate the public about common misconceptions regarding American Indians and to allow the public the opportunity to witness firsthand the traditions and to learn about the culture of American Indians. This was an inter-tribal event, which encompassed people from various tribes who live in Kern County and the rest of the nation.
“One of the misconceptions is that Native Americans worship buffalos and trees… which is a complete crock. Native Americans like most people and religions believe in one creator. We worship the creator, but we honor the creations,” said Alex Ravenfeather.
