It truly was “A Grand Night For Music” at the Rabobank Convention Center, where all high schools from Kern County united to make music. Chris Deroth, a spectator, said, ” I’m here to watch these great bands make incredible music.”
“Shenandoah” and “From Sea To Shining Sea” were just some of the pieces covered.
Ben Cooper, a fellow spectator, said, “They really don’t make music like that anymore!”
A special recognition was given to all high school seniors who participated in “A Grand Night For Music” for four years in a row. Special awards were given out to Mark McGuire and John Biller for their achievements in teaching. The Master of Ceremonies was William Jones, Kern High School District’s assistant superintendent.
“It truly was an amazing night for all the students and teachers who put so much hard work into this,” said Ashley Graham, a parent. Over 500 students raised their instruments and voices to make “A Grand Night For Music.”
“All the students’ talents really showed tonight. This was such a successful show to start the new year,” said Hanna Kim, a clarinet player from South High School.
Three hundred choir members sang such works as “Neighbors Chorus” and “Evenin’ Time” which produced a harmonic sound. To end the night, the orchestra, band and choir combined to perform “From Sea To Shining Sea.”
“My favorite piece was at the end of the night when they sang ‘From Sea To Shining Sea.’ It made me cry when they showed the American flag in the background,” said Amy Walters, a spectator.
All in all, “A Grand Night For Music” lived up to its name by producing great works of art.
With the county’s budget in crisis, people are worried if the music program will be cut here in Kern County.
Lorenzo Gomez, a spectator says, “It is a concern if the music program will be cut, but tonight just proves why music should not ever be cut.”
But with the success of this event many people are still saying that this event will be here for us next year.

Please let me know the names of the music played by the Grand Night 2018 Orchestra. I am looking for the piece that was dramatic, not folk music.
Thank you for your prompt attention.
Kindest Regards,
