The smell of Greek food filled the air as the community came together for the 37th annual Greek Festival at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Sept. 11. Live music, vendors and food entertained visitors as they walked through the gates.
The Greek Festival is not only a fundraiser and tradition for the church and regular attendees, it’s a family affair. For over 20 years, the Rodgers family has served the food for the festival. Four generations later, the Greek spirit is still thriving.
“I’ve been here since I was 2,” 14-year-old Ariel Rodgers said.
Ariel helps the cook line and serve the food. Her mother, Liz Rodgers, explained how it all got started.
“My husband’s family started the booth. The whole family works out here,” Liz said.
To keep their energy alive, the cooks often yell “Opa!” which is Greek for “Hurray!” Liz said they say it, “just to entertain and have a good time.”
Ariel and her mom agree; they love the people and friends that gather every year.
“We have a great time,” Liz said.
