The second annual Future Leader Conference will be on Nov. 7. Organized by director of political education Jack Brigham and several local college students involved in student government, they hope the event will provide inspiration to local students.
The Future Leader Conference will be held at Bakersfield College from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with several seminars scheduled throughout the day.
Several notable speakers from throughout the nation will be holding workshops throughout the day, including KHSD trustee Chad Vegas and Sheridan England, a lawyer from the Department of Justice.
According to SGA president Kristi Newsom, the goal of the event is “To bring students from high school and college together to gain leadership skills.”
Aside from skill building, attendees will also be able to learn from the experience of other SGA senators. Shawn Newsom, an SGA senator, believes that while college is a key component of success, the words of experienced professionals can be just as important to those pursuing a goal.
