On Oct. 20 the Enchanted Cottage house once again opened its doors to the community to celebrate the psychic fair that takes places three times a year in Bakersfield. Coming into the Enchanted Cottage house was an unusual, yet interesting experience, in which people had the opportunity to talk to experienced psychic readers about their futures.

Located at the corner of H Street and First Street, the Enchanted Cottage house has been in Bakersfield for 10 years.

“The purpose of this fair is to reach out to the community to let them know we are a spiritual center,” said Deanna Shanti, the owner of the house. “Also, we would like to introduce all the many fine readers that we have available.”

One of the most fascinating features at the fair was the psychic’s readings.  Apparently, many people are skeptical about this practice, yet most of the people that attended the event were interested in talking to one of the available psychic readers. Shanti, who sponsors the event, firmly made the following statement.

“People who work here as psychic readers are very accurate in their readings. Customers always let me know what they think about our psychic readers.  Every time we have a fair around 75-150 attend the event, and so far I haven’t had anyone complain about them.”

Angelica Perez, a regular customer at the Enchanted Cottage house, responded with the following when asked what she thought about the fair.

“I like it,” she said. “It is interesting for people that don’t know about it. This is my third time coming. They are very open and positive.  The first time I came I talked to Marcia [psychic reader], and everything she told me just hit the nail on the head.  She was able to tell me things that were happening to me.  I like the fact that they don’t fish for questions like many other psychic readers do. These people genuinely care about their readings, not necessarily the money.”

While people were waiting for their psychic reader appointments, they could sit and enjoy the free food available, or simply listen to music and hang out with friends. Since it was a special day, people interested in psychic readings were given a discount: fifteen minute reading for $20.

Karla Escobar, another fairgoer, found the Psychic fair to be an eye-opening event.

“I have always had the curiosity to know in detail about psychic readings, so I decided to come today to have a psychic reader tell me about my future in the areas of love, prosperity, and personality,” said Escobar. “After having a 15-minute appointment with a psychic reader, I realized that she really helped me to see things more clearly when it comes to decisions about my marriage and setting goals for academic attainment.  I really enjoyed the entertainment and the free food.”

The Enchanted Cottage house does not only serve as a place to do psychic readings, but it also offers several different types of healing techniques, classes, and events.  For instance, every fourth Friday of the month, it provides entertainment, local artists, and someone doing Henna, which are temporary tattoos.
