After years of anticipation, UFC 300 has arrived.
This card featured star power and left audiences with a night to remember.
The event took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on April 13, 2024.
UFC 300 consisted of eight Prelim matches, three main card matches, and a co-main event featuring Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan, and the main event showcased Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill.
Pereira defended the light heavyweight title against Hill who has never lost the belt in competition.
With an explosive build-up to the main event, a main card that stood out was none other than Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje and also Arman Tsarukyan vs. Charles Oliveira. Holloway delivered a brutal spinning strike that connected with Gaethje’s nose, appearing to have broken it.
With the fight lasting all five rounds and just one second before the final bell, Gaethje was left lying face down by knockout.
Both fighters fought for the title of “the baddest mother…”, you get it.
As for the lightweight title shot, Tsarukyan had his biggest win in his career thus far.
Although it wasn’t Tsarukyan’s win people were talking about the next day, it was him seemingly punching a fan on his way to the cage. Tsarukyan reacted very suddenly showing to have punched one fan and then scaring another. Although Tsarukyan defeated Oliviera by split decision, fans were not pleased with Tsarukyan’s poor sportsmanship.
The co-main event featured women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang who earned a unanimous decision over Yan Xiaonan. Both women showed tremendous strength and fought all five rounds. With a powerful matchup, Weili’s grappling skills outshined Xiaonan’s strength.
The main- event was cut short due to a first-round knockout by Pereira that left Hill dazed as there was only one minute and 45 seconds left of round one.
Hill, the former champion, who returned from a torn Achilles last summer, was left with the first knockout loss of his career. With Hill suffering this loss, he was still left in good spirits and said he was determined to come back better.
UFC 300 was an intense line-up and showcased fierce talent that brought the biggest streaming numbers yet since the pandemic.
