Bakersfield college student government invites fellow students to come and join them for a “Let’s Taco Bout It” event. This event took place on Apr. 9 from 12:30 – 2p.m. in front of the cafeteria building on the lawn.
It gave students a chance to come and get free tacos while having a conversation with the Bakersfield College student government. There were catered tacos provided for 50 students, so it was a first come first serve. As students got in line for tacos, the student government was there handing out and helping serve tacos with a friendly smile. There were multiple tables spread across the lawn with a member of the student government waiting to be talked to by students.
Jacob Palmbach, Director of Finance, was responsible for planning and running the event. He shared the event was about giving students a chance to talk about their Bakersfield college experience with our student government. It allowed for concern to be brought up and expressed through a personal level by a sit-down conversation. The discussion gave students recognition and to be heard by giving attention to their time here at BC.
The overall turnout was great, within 20 minutes over 50 students had come ready to eat tacos and make conversation. The tacos looked delicious with fresh ingredients and all the authenticity of a traditional Mexican taco. There are 15 members in Bakersfield College Student Government, putting a name to a face helps students get familiar to recognize these members. The college experience only makes improvement by hearing out the ones who attend it by being open to listening and ready to change.
This event lets students voice out the concerns within the college and brings out constructive criticism. Along with talking, providing tacos brought the appeal for students to come.
