Did you know about the different events here on the Bakersfield College Panorama campus? Well to kick off the new 24-25 year, students were invited to join this year’s Student Involvement Fest that had happened on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 9am to 1pm.
Many students had joined the event to engage with old and new resources that are offered here on campus. Students stated that many of the booths that were set up were helpful. In fact many were given opportunities to help scholars, and to be reminded of what BC has to offer students of all kinds.
Diana Alcala, who was running the Rising Scholars program booth mentioned that the festival can help you find resources. “It’s important to know what resources are available to students and find clubs they can identify with and help through their college education,” said Alcala.
“The reason it’s important is because of the college experience. When online you can’t get as involved when on campus. When on campus you could find better relationships and opportunities. Depending if you stay in Bakersfield or move to a different school or area, it is important to gain involvement on campus to have experience in the real world,” said Michael Wyatt, student at the Rising Scholars program.
The Student Enrollment also allowed students to join clubs or other activities to help find others who have similar interests or goals on campus. One club that gained popular traction was the Sexuality And Gender Acceptance (SAGA) club.
“This club is a safe haven for people. We are the people who are able to be ourselves and be able to meet other people who are somewhat the same. Even though we are not registered therapists, we have sources to those who are licensed, and have sources not just for people in our club but for those who need help and need someone to talk to,” said Amber Chatterton and Jimmy Escalante, President and Secretary of the BC’s SAGA club.
Thanks to the Student Involvement Fest, many were to start the Fall semester with new opportunities.
