Bakersfield College holds Farmer’s Market events to distribute free fruits and vegetables to students and Kern County members to help with groceries within the community on Oct 14.
You can find the farmer’s market near the Outdoor Theater beginning at 10 a.m. It is held every second Tuesday of every month BC hosts a Farmers Market for its students and surrounding areas.
The farmers market started at 10 in the morning, all items are free and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Event is from 10:00 to 2:00p.m., arrive early because there are times when you can’t find anything. That’s why many people arrive very early, some arrive as early in the morning because the earlier you arrive, the better items are to be served.
There are many people who attend this event every month and there are many people who help each other at this farmer’s market.
If attending the market, the organizers ask that you bring your own shopping bags. Many choose to bring bags while others decide to bring wagon carts to make it easier to carry the heavy fruits and vegetables.
Every month you can find different items. This month includes a variety of vegetables it has broccoli, pumpkin, romaine lettuce, white onions and carrots, the most common vegetables that we can find in our kitchen. The fruit given this month was oranges.
Although they give offer different types of products, they also offer help if you need other basic services such as applying for CalFresh and how to obtain other types of help. CalFresh is California food stamps that helps those associated in need for help of groceries and provide food.
This event not only helps BC students but also helps everyone be provided with organic items and free groceries. Anyone can participate in joining to get free services provided by BC Farmers market. Nobody is judged and declined just show up for healthy fresh produce.
