Voters headed to the polls on Nov. 5 to make their picks for local, state and federal offices.
Kern County voters selected county supervisors in District 2 and District 5, assembly members in districts 32 and 35, and representatives to the U.S. congress. They also decided on multiple propositions and a California senator. Voters also cast their ballots for various school board members in Bakersfield, Arvin, Shafter and Delano.
According to the Kern County Election website on Nov. 6 the results are as follows:
- U.S. Representative 20th Congressional District: Vince Fong (R) won with a total of 67,531. Although his fellow republican challenger Mike Boudreux decided a few months ago that he no longer wanted to be in that position, it was too late to remove him from the ballot and he still obtained 28,397 votes, about 25% of the votes.
- U.S. Representative for Congressional District 22: as of Nov.6, David Valadao has the lead over democrat Rudy Salas, but as of press time the race was still too close to call.
- State Assembly Member District 35 – Jasmeet Bains received a total of 32,123 votes over her challenger Robert Rosas who had 24994 votes.
- Kern Community College Board Members: In area 4 Danny Diaz came in with a total of 12,167 votes, winning with more than 64% over opponent Flor Olvera. In area 7, incumbent Kay Meek had 56% of the vote compared with opponent Connie Perez Andreesen (43%).
- Kern High School Board Member races for areas 2 and 3 are both close. As of press time the top three finishers in area two were Steve Rodrigue (37%), Manuel Ramirez (25%) and Otilia Curiel (24%). In area 3, the the candidates Penny Lepisto 50%) and David F. Manriquez (49%) are only separated by 200 votes.
- Bakersfield City School Board Member #1 – had four candidate finish within 9 percent of each other: Michael Eggert (30%), Luis Garcia (26%), Emma De La Rosa (21%) and Brandon Holladay (21%).
- Member of the State Assembly 35th District – Incumbent Jasmeet Bains retained her seat with a total of 32123 votes.
