The end of the semester comes in a flash almost in the blink of an eye. Suddenly, student’s schedules are filled with finals and hours of studying which can take a toll on a student’s stress levels.
Finals are one of the most important tests throughout the school year since they determine the final grade of a student’s semester. It can weigh heavily on students who want to thrive and succeed throughout their college career.
Bakersfield College (BC) offers a range of ways to support students and help them thrive and relieve stress as a whole and final season.
Grace Van Dyke Library that is located on the main Bakersfield College campus holds an annual destress week for students that allows students to find comfort in the library they once studied so hard in.
For the Library destress week for fall 2024 a range of activities have been from Dec 2-5th such as coffee in the stacks, hot chocolate bars and miracle mutts therapy dogs. Students can also find coloring pages, Lo-Fi music and word games all week at the library to enjoy with friends.
Bakersfield College library also offers a destress fest, that showcases ways to make finals as easy as possible for students. It is recommended for students to get eight hours of sleep, balanced meals and take time for yourself. It is important to balance your time wisely.
If students feel as though they help manage stress and their negative emotions overall, BC student health and wellness center offers mental health help for students that may be overwhelmed with stress.
There are also other departments such as the veterans center that provide their own services to specialize specific needs.
BC also offers a variety of tutoring for students along with the writing center that allows students to feel confident and stress less with their subjects and courses.
It is highly encouraged for students to take advantage of all resources that are provided to them to prevent any overwhelming feelings that may occur.
