Two Bakersfield College students were conducting their own course in sex education in a campus classroom when they were interrupted by a custodian.
The custodian said he caught a young man and woman believed to be students naked in the Fine Arts 30 auditorium on Nov. 6.
The custodian, who asked that his name not be used, was heading toward the door about 2 p.m. when he saw a hand quickly try to shut it. He said he quickly reached for the door when he saw a young naked man run ahead of him and go out a fire escape door that faces the east, he said.
The custodian then opened the exit door and saw a young nude woman. Both immediately ran away.
“He was trying to put his pants on while he was still running,” the custodian said.
The custodian did not follow them any further and said the couple both headed behind the Fine Arts building. He immediately called his supervisor, Nan Gomez-Heitzeberg, dean of student learning.
Campus security interim Sgt. Chris Counts said the incident was not reported until an hour and a half after it happened. He said by the time officers got the report, the couple was long gone and no one could identify them.
The custodian who made the report said he has worked here 18 years and finds nothing unusual about the incident.
“I’ve caught lots of people doing it,” he said.
