Bill Schroeder was overwhelmed.
Schroeder, 53, custodian of the Humanities Building, was recently honored by the faculty in his building with a plaque of recognition on the door of his office that reads, “Bill Schroeder / Our Custodian.”
“I am just overwhelmed that they did that for me,” he said.
Custodian Eddie Rodriguez said he has never seen anything like this at BC.
“I have been here 28 years and I have never seen or ever heard of any custodian being honored like he was recently,” said Rodriguez.
Schroeder has worked at BC for 22 years. His day starts at 3 a.m.
“I like working here. It’s a great place. The people are real nice, the kids are real nice,” he said.
He said receiving the plaque on his door has been his most memorable moment at BC.
“Everybody in the building who wanted to got together and we put the plaque up for him,” said Carol Cunningham, English Department chairwoman. We did it in Renegade colors, too ,because he’s our custodian and that was the thing we really wanted to underline,” said Cunningham.
In his spare time, he enjoys watching NASCAR races. His favorite drivers are Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick.
“They’re all technical racers. They’re fun to watch,” Schroeder said.
Another sport he enjoys is trap shooting, in which the highest score is 100. “You get a hundred rounds to shoot. Out of the hundred rounds, they judge you by your score. My highest score has been like a 97. That’s pretty good,” he said.
