Heart-shaped balloons, roses and teddy bears were seen throughout BC on Feb. 14.
Chocolate and roses may seem clichÇ to give on St. Valentine’s Day, but BC students still prefer to give these gifts.
Kalene Perez bought her boyfriend “a box of chocolate, a balloon with the words ‘I love you’ and a pillow covered with teddy bears.” Fernando Galvin said, “I bought my Valentine a box of chocolate and roses.”
Giving and receiving gifts are only one part of celebrating Valentine’s Day.
How you spend the day is what completes the celebration. Perez said, “I’m going to lunch with my boyfriend and then cheering at the basketball game.”
Brandon Fletcher said he would spend his day “spending money on my girl and taking her to Santa Monica.” Mathematics professor Rebecca Head said, “I’ll be going to the basketball game with some folks, and my husband is going to meet me there.”
Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day to spend time with a significant other. There were students that would be enjoying the day with friends.
Natasha Mays said, “I’ll be hanging out with friends and I bought them chocolate roses.” Alicia Rodriguez said, “I’m going to be hanging out with friends, were going to dinner and then the Katt Williams comedy show.”
While some students were making plans for their day and walking around campus with Valentine trinkets, not all students found the holiday too exciting.
Martha Nguyen said she would be spending her day studying for her Biology 18 class. Nguyen said, “I don’t think Valentine’s Day is a big deal, I think it’s a clichÇ thing.” Chris Dockery said, “I won’t be doing a dang thing.”
