The GET bus will soon get moving to Panorama Drive.
Plans are in the works to move the bus terminal, located in front of Bakersfield College’s Outdoor Theater, to Panorama near the front of the business education building. The project is entirely funded by GET, according to Gina Hayden, GET marketing manager.
Hayden said the approximate cost will be $1.8 million for construction. There is no current timeline for the project, and there are no set designs for it at this time, she said. The project is very much in the initial stage.
The project has only been recently authorized with a signed contract. The project will include amenities, such as restrooms and will be more accommodating to disabled students.
However, many BC students see no reason for the move.
“It’ll just block traffic,” said Victoria Beaudette, 23, business administration and economics major.
James Fick, 18, child development major, who has a mild form of cerebral palsy, said he doesn’t think the move is a good idea. Fick, who uses crutches, said he doesn’t think other disabled students would appreciate the trek to Panorama.
“What difference would it make if they moved it?” said disabled student Karen West, journalism major, who uses a wheelchair to get around campus. “Are the hills less steep over there?”
