Shortly before 10 a.m. on Sept. 10, BC officials received a bomb threat via telephone. According to Amber Chiang, director of Media Relations for BC, a caller with a man’s voice phoned in the threat and left no specifics as to location or type of device.

“Immediately after receiving the call, we activated our Incident Command Team and began a systematic sweep of the campus,” Chiang said in a telephone interview. “Nothing was found, and we deactivated our emergency teams well before 11 a.m.”

Bakersfield College President Greg Chamberlain’s office explained what actions were taken. Building administrators were contacted and asked to sweep each of their buildings along with Public Safety and Maintenance and Operations staff for suspicious objects. After finding nothing out of the ordinary, the threat was deemed unverified.

Chiang also indicated that SGA President Kristi Newsom had been sent the details of the incident by the college president’s office and would be alerting students to the event through student email lists.
