With the economy and the amount of unemployment, Bakersfield College students are strapped for cash.

“I am doing my best to budget my money. I go online and try to rent cheap used books on chegg.com,” said Alex Ross, a BC student.

The tight economy has also affected students who want to grab a bite to eat on campus. “Food here is expensive. I usually pack my own lunch. It may look dorky but it saves money,” said Ashley Wolf, a BC student.

Other students at BC are finding alternative ways to save even the tiniest cent “I ride my bike to school that way I do not use gas as much” said Michael Mortise a BC student. “I actually make my own shoes. It’s a hard long process but it looks good, and I don’t have to buy any more expensive shoes at a store,” said Thomas Sleet, a Bakersfield resident. With tuition going up 6 dollars this semester, students are trying to save money the best they can.

Students are also car pooling to school to save money and to cut down gas prices, but some students are still pretty comfortable about the economy.

“Honestly I haven’t changed much out of my lifestyle, I always buy my books at the bookstore and I drive to school everyday,” said Dan Summers, a BC student.
