Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 will be the first Renegade Pantry distribution of the semester.

There have been a few changes to the way the Renegade Pantry operates. This includes the sign in process. Bakersfield College students can now register for the pantry at www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/campus/pantry. The sign up time given to students has now been extended as well. BC students are now allowed to sign up a month in advance. In past semesters, BC students were only allowed a few days during the week of distribution. More than 65 students registered for February disbursement and the next distribution date is planned for April.

There are also new pantry co-coordinators Gabby Caraballo and Nannette Gonzalez revamping the pantry here on campus. The two are working together to create a more efficient way to serve the BC students regarding pantry services. The two teamed up with SGA to host a donation drive at a local business in Bakersfield. The event held on Jan. 25 at Sam’s Club on Gosford Dr. brought in over 150 donated items from the local community.

“Due to pantry disbursement being based on supply the Renegade Pantry is planning on hosting more donation drives at other local businesses in the community,” explained Caraballo.

Recently, supply for pantry disbursement has decreased which led to a downsizing of disbursement. There was a total of one disbursement last semester and plans on having disbursements will be once every other month.

Due to that, the pantry is currently seeking donations. “It is a main objection,” Caraballo went on to mention.

Caraballo also mentioned that if any students, or faculty interested in making donations to the pantry can drop off items in to the office of student life at any time. The office of student life is located in CC-4 in the campus center adjacent from the cafeteria near the Renegade Rip.

“There is BC faculty and staff members that have been donating to the pantry for some time now,” mentioned Caraballo.

Caraballo would also like to publicly thank the BC faculty and staff for their monthly donations.
