KVC sticker is now working on improvements

The KVC Sticker, also known as the Kern Value Card, is something that the Student Government Association has been using as a source of income, but it also tries to make it a complete package by adding discounts and supplies that students use and need.
SGA has not made it mandatory for students to sign up, but at the cost of $15, students receive 10 free scantrons, two free blue books, 10 free copies, faxes and two tickets to home football games, according to SGA president Clayton Fowler.
Nicky Damania, director of Student Life, understands not every student may be able to afford the $15 but hopes that those who can understand its value.
Discounts also include 400 local businesses in Kern County, such as Subway and can go as far as Disneyland tickets.
As their only source of income, SGA can only do events and activities with the money they have, which is $90,000 in revenue.
Damania said, “They have been making sure counselors are aware of telling students about the KVC sticker and have been advertising on the Bakersfield College App.
Fowler also said, “It’s a really good thing that is in the community, but what we’ve done here is we’ve also tailored it to the student experience.”
For instance, the tie-dye event that was hosted by SGA one fall semester was an event where if you had the KVC sticker, you got to do the activity for free, but if you didn’t have it, you had to pay for the T-shirt and then you could participate.
SGA is tailoring the KVC sticker to their events in hopes that people will get the sticker.
A future activity that SGA would like to do around the springtime is Battleship.
“That’s where you get canoes and you put them in the pool, and you have teams of four people, and you try to sink the other person’s canoe until the last team is left,” said Fowler.
