Earlier this month, BC’s college safety sent a statement regarding an incident that happened on campus. It stated that on July 11, at approximately at 2 p.m., a sexual assault incident was reported to authorities. The incident happened near the exterior bathrooms by the Panorama campus dining commons.
A suspect was apprehended by July 13, according to a second statement from the college’s public safety office. The Rip reached out to public safety to obtain additional details, but the office simply referred back to the two emailed notifications.
The first stated that an investigation was underway and public safety was working closely with the Bakersfield police department. It also included a brief description of the suspect, described as an adult Hispanic male with brown hair and eyes, approximately, approximately 5’5″, and in his mid-20s, wearing a black tank top and gray shorts.
Two days after the first statement was shared, an update was sent out. It stated: “On 7/11/23, we shared with you information about the sexual assault incident that was reported to College Safety. Since then, College Safety and the Bakersfield Police Department have been actively and collaboratively investigating this incident. These relentless efforts and the cooperation of our community have led to the successful identification and apprehension of the suspect.”
The statement also included a summary of the resources that BC offered for students in case of a similar situation were to happen again. It mentioned the Health and Wellness Center and how they offer free confidential support, along with attaching their BC Sexual Assault Awareness Campaign.
