Bakersfield College hosted Manufacturing Day near the football stadium for high schools in the city, last Friday, Oct. 20.
Many employers from the Bakersfield area came and set up booths for students to ask any questions about this line of work. College students were welcome to attend as well.
BC wanted the kids to be aware of the opportunities in front of them.
According to BC’s Job Development Specialist, Anycia Reyes, the purpose of this was to “inspire the next generation” and “connect with local employers.”
Many fields of work were represented, such as robotics, welding, electrical engineering, and much more. They presented many industrial technology opportunities for the students there. The event had a great turnout from the looks of it.
There were “over 1,000” students on campus, according to Reyes.
The companies present there were GAF, Stratolaunch, AC Electric, BPS Supply Group, and plenty more. The event was even sponsored by institutions such as Chevron and AC Electric. Reyes stated there were over 30 establishments there on Manufacturing Day.
There was a tour of the various technological disciplines.
Reyes’ main lesson she wanted the academic hopefuls there to learn was, “If you can dream it, you can build it.”
The event was done in specific sessions. The students had groups they were a part of that walked around the college to various areas.
