This semester BC is full of new construction and one of the biggest projects is the new Agriculture building.
This building is a fabulous change for agricultural science students since this three-story building will have large classrooms and laboratories, the construction of this new building will completely change the students’ learning experience.
The Agricultural Sciences building that BC was built in 1954, being one of the oldest buildings in the school. They were one of the buildings that BC built when BC was only 41 years old. Now that it is already 111 years old, it will have an ultramodern building.
This building will not only have the best technology for students but will also be the best agricultural science building thus having the best agricultural science education in the state of California.
Professor Lindsay Ono Said “The new Agricultural Sciences building is planned to include an impressive total building area of 49,546 square feet (about half the area of a Manhattan city block), including covered outdoor areas. Designed as an all-electric building, it will exceed Title 24 standards by more than 24%, proving BC’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
This new building will greatly change the agricultural sciences area. It will have new facilities to make students’ classes more dynamic and have more experience with what the real world is like since it will have scientific and food production facilities, a mechanized agricultural workshop and a variety of agricultural science laboratories, including those for tissue/growth, animal studies, veterinary technology, horticulture, soils, plant sciences and forestry.
One of the largest challenges they had to be able to carry out this new building since BC no longer has much space to make large constructions, they had to think about how to make this new building and think about how to do it in the space assigned since they had elevated expectations.
The cost of this new building is estimated to be $38.8 Million since this building will have many modern technologies.
It is estimated that this building will be finished by December 2025 although due to so much rain we have had the construction has stopped but if everything goes as planned by December of next year it will be finished, and the spring 2026 students will now be able to take classes in the new building.
