The Garden Fest was held at Bakersfield College on Apr. 27. The event featured many participants, tents and vendors in the BC garden area. It is located on the Southeast side of the Panorama campus. The fest was welcoming to all the people in the community, including free admission.
Food trucks, games, seminars, and vendor booths, speakers were among the highlights. There were also gardening tips & products, including pet supplies, cooking, arts, and crafts, and home decor. This was truly an event to come out and admire nature while surrounded by locals.
Many BC organizations, such as EOPS, Student Life, BC Archives, and BC Agriculture were out there providing information in their own booths.
The Culinary Arts program in BC demonstrates how to apply kitchen skills to a real-life experience in the Renegade Room and apply it out in the real world. In the fest, the program showcased their masterpieces of delicious food. The entrée offered at the event was Chinese chicken salad and pulled pork sandwiches, which were priced at $12. Then, there were the sweet items, which consisted of three different cookies: oatmeal chocolate chip, brown butter chocolate chip, and pistachio chocolate chip priced at $3 each. Additionally, they were holding a cookoff competition with three teams, which included two pairs each handed limited ingredients and fresh items from the garden.
Culinary arts student worker Alexander Salinas lets us know his favorite item of the day, which was a pulled pork sandwich.
Regarding the event, BC Archives director Bethany Rice said, “It is fun, and I like meeting new people.”
March Consulting College planning came out today with two members: Amaia Lesaca, and Shelby Carpenter said, “To get our name out and we work with middle school and high school students and wanted to be part of BC events, where we can help students with scholarships, enrollment process and transfer process.”
Overall, the Garden Fest was a huge success for Bakersfield College and the community itself.
