The Bakersfield College Choir is holding a shoe drive until April 10, with the hope to collect upwards of 2,500 gently used pairs of shoes of any kind, size, or brand.
BC Choir is working with Funds2org to collect gently used shoes to help provide to people around the world.
Robert Chavez, a member of the choir and someone who is a part of the shoe drive said,
“Through Funds2org’s the shoes benefit people around the world, in 26 countries actually, to not only provide shoes, but help people within communities become entrepreneurs themselves through making business selling the donated shoes.”
The drive is also helping the BC Choir with their fundraising efforts to sing in New York.
Professor Jennifer Garrett, the director of choral and vocal studies at BC, explained, “The shoe drive will help the BC Choir with the fundraising efforts to perform in Carnegie Hall New York on June 14, 2026. Dr. Garrett [I] was invited to do a conducting residency in Carnegie Hall and decided to take the BC Chamber Singers and any of the BC Choir students who decide to go and raise the money to attend. This will be an opportunity that will change these singers’ lives!”
Members of the community who wish to donate shoes may drop them off at the Kern Community College District office, located at 2100 Chester Ave. BC has multiple locations on campus to drop off shoes, including at the library, student life, PAC 5, and Fine Arts 69 in Dean Manny Mourtzanos office.
