“Imagine all the people, sharing all the world. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.I hope some day you’ll join us, and the world will live as one,” John Lennon.
In 1971, Lennon wrote the song “Imagine.” It received a lot of attention then and should be getting the same now. In the song, he talks about peace and contentment with one another. He looked at who and what we rely on in life and told us to imagine a life without them. It is time for change.
We all need to reassess our priorities, look at our faults and create a world we can be proud of.
We all have a choice in life. We can either leave the world’s problems for others to deal with or take action ourselves. Our lives have become too complicated and self-absorbed. Instead of focusing on our own wants, we should look at what we could do for others. We’ve let world leaders drag us into a never-ending war for peace, but we can take back the power.
We receive new opportunities every day to make a difference. Whether it is by boycotting a policy in your town, donating money to a charity or simply by ignoring the masses and voting for the candidate you really want to follow, we can all make a difference.
It doesn’t hurt to dream what we could become. A nation living in hope instead of fear, a world without religious wars and society living in peace. We need to learn to respect the differences of our world and cherish the similarities.
Lennon made a contribution through this song by making people think about their current situations. Even today, 33 years later, his words ring true, reflecting America’s struggles. Don’t be afraid to imagine what we can become.
