Are you just too lazy to pick up after yourself or is living like a pig your true lifestyle? The Rip newsroom is located in the Campus Center, and that question crosses my mind every time I step outside.
I realize that most people were slobs on their high school campus, and maybe it is just idealistic to think that some people would be mature and actually take pride in appearance.
I am not complaining about recycling, though this school could probably hire a full-time maid with money collected from the cans and bottles littering the campus greens and sidewalks. What is particularly revolting is some people get their food, eat it and just stand up and leave, when a trash can is but 10 feet away.
I have noticed that it is the same groups of people who gather for lunch in the Campus Center and the same individuals who selfishly show no regard for who’s going to clean up after them.
I wonder if the mothers of these students clean up after them at home. If that is the case, then I will blame the parents and accept the fact that these students were not taught any better.
By the end of the day on the Wednesdays when we distribute the Renegade Rip, the campus is littered with newspapers. Though this is distressing, considering that articles I have written are being walked on, my largest complaint is that people read it and then just drop it on the ground.
Once again, this is particularly bad in the Campus Center, which is truly pathetic because there are eight trashcans and two newspaper stands. If folding the newspaper up and putting it back is too difficult a task, couldn’t you at least throw it away? I understand there are always going to be lazy people, but do you have to be one of them?
The SGA along with the Bakersfield College clubs have been discussing taking it upon themselves to pick up after people in a program called Adopt-A-Walkway.
I think it’s a wonderful idea but the fact the problem is so bad that the SGA feels the need to get involved is disconcerting.
Janitors are not your mothers. The SGA and BC clubs aren’t some kind of prison roadside crew. The fact of the matter is that it’s our own responsibility to clean up after ourselves. Stop being a pig.
