One of the best-known stores of this era is the 99¢ store. However, it is set to go out of business this year. This affects those who would go there for their needs or people looking for affordable value. Within the stores, you can find discounts up to 30%.
The 99¢ store was a place where everything could be found in an affordable price, along with a variety of items when compared to bigger markets.
It served many customers with high-value and cheaper items, especially EBT users due to the affordable cost and value they can receive with food items.
The store had a wide variety of items, such as kitchen appliances, snacks, fresh groceries, drinks, kids’ toys, health items, home items, and more. The 99¢ store has everything people needed at any given time.
According to Beverley Press, “The 99¢ store has been open since late 1982. There are over 400 stores in multiple states.” It was a popular chain in the 21st century.
The reason behind the 99¢ store closing is due to bankruptcy based on sales drastically going down after COVID-19, along with theft robberies. According to CNN sources, “the last several years have presented significant & last challenges.”
Many workers were there, including Natalia Martinez, who spoke on what she thought of the store shutting down. “It’sjust a lot of people depended on this store for produce and dairy,” Martinez stated. The sudden closure will affect many jobs, causing unemployment and difficult financial situations. Martinez said, “It was all of a sudden and now I have to find a new job in two weeks, and I have two boys.”
Asked where Martinez will seek her next job, she said, “Any employment or go back to school.” Her favorite experience was “working with my coworkers & pretty easy as my first cashier job.”
Customer Kathleen Lopez shared her thoughts on the announcement of the 99¢ store shutting down. Lopez said, “I’msad and probably won’t be able to share with the next generation, was able to get more stuff when I was a kid was and looked forward to it.”
Will this affect her personally? Lopez stated, “feeling a little disappointed and that there’s a lot of theft like a [expletive] and got to save more and find another place since it is gonna hit my wallet, the theft part sucks.”
Lopez’s favorite experience was the fact that the store “has everything you could think of, from groceries, birthday items, everything you needed for a good price.”
A good run for the 99¢ store, as it enjoyed success for over four decades.
