Playing to a sold-out crowd, Jimmy Eat World proves experience makes for a great high-energy live rock concert.
With a blend of alternative rock and power pop, Jimmy Eat World performed song after song with seamless transitions and polished, tight musical guitar riffs during the April 6 show at Rabobank Arena.
Since forming in 1994, Jimmy Eat World has countless tour dates under their belt and nine albums to offer listeners.
The band is promoting their latest album addition, a re-release of “Bleed America,” which is a two-disc expanded package out April 29.
Due to Jimmy Eat World’s experience, the band created a show with great lighting that accentuated the music and kept the crowd on its feet. While some bands are great in the studio, Jimmy Eat World sounds even better live, and for those who are unfamiliar with the band, they should invest in a CD because their creative sound and savvy lyrics are worth listening to.
Unlike the commanding stage presence of Jimmy Eat World, opening act Paramore gave an energetic performance but still fell short due to lack of experience.
Opening with a strong powerhouse drum solo, the glow of cell phones taking pictures created the feel of the use of lighters, which old-school concert-goers once used.
Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, 19, belted out lyrics with emotion and high energy; however, she talked to the crowd way too much in between songs. Although she was just trying to engage the audience, Williams should rely more on the music and the power of her voice to get the crowd involved.
Since forming in 2004, the band from Tennessee has released two albums of pop-punk style music that teenagers and the young 20-something crowd have come to embrace.
Fans seem to relate to Paramore’s lyrics. However, Williams’ voice was often drowned out by electric guitars and loud drums. The highlight of their hour-long performance was the version of “When It Rains.” With only the use of an acoustic guitar, keyboard, and William’s piercing voice, there was a raw vulnerability, which created and delivered a moment to remember.
With tour experience, Paramore will surely raise the bar in which Jimmy Eat World has set for them to reach.
Go see Jimmy Eat World because they are sure to put on a great show.
As for Paramore, go see them to have the memory of seeing a band that is just starting out, or wait until they are a bit more polished with experience.
