Bill & Ted Face the Music is the movie 2020 needed
September 29, 2020
In 2020, a time where the world seems to be collapsing every five minutes, the latest Bill & Ted movie leaves us with a simple message: be excellent to each other.
Audiences were first introduced to Bill Preston (Alex Winter) and Ted Logan (Keanu Reeves) in 1989 after their movie “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” was released. Together, Bill and Ted, whose band name is the Wyld Stallyns (pronounced as “Wild Stallions,”) they go on goofy adventures as they travel through time and visit various historical figures. The original film also spawned a sequel in 1991 titled “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.”
These two movies have gained a significant cult following over the years, and one of the film’s stars, Keanu Reeves, has become a beloved Hollywood icon in recent years. Reeves and Winter have been open about wanting to return to their iconic roles for a long time, and fans of Bill & Ted were finally given the third film in their trilogy in August 2020 after the release of “Bill & Ted Face the Music.”
“Bill & Ted Face the Music” followed the two titular characters in 2020 as they ultimately failed to write their prophesized song that would unite the world. Because of this, time and space are beginning to collapse, and Bill and Ted must write the song by 7:17 p.m. to save humanity. Together, they once again go on adventures through time, picking up historical musicians such as Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, and Louis Armstrong along the way. Rap star Kid Cudi also makes an appearance and was one of the highlights of the movie.
People have been waiting a long time for Bill and Ted to return to the big screen, and Reeves and Winter do not disappoint. With Bill and Ted now being married with kids, the film explores their family lives, but the film ultimately shows that Bill and Ted are two inseparable best friends, who think the exact same thing at the exact same time. Together, they work to save the world and fix the relationships that they have with their families in the process. The overall theme of the movie is friendship, and how it ties us all together.
The film is fast-paced and funny throughout. While the comedy style be seen as stupid and cheesy, that is the point. Any of the “Bill & Ted” films are not meant to be taken seriously, and you can tell that the second you hear their annoying voices. Once you start watching “Bill & Ted” with that in mind, Reeves and Winter blow this film out of the park.
