There are many local coffee shops here in Bakersfield; some fall short, but there are a few that exceed expectations: Pura Vida Coffee.
Many saw this shack converted to a drive-thru coffee shop. Although awkwardly placed right next to Dunkin’ Donuts, there is still no comparison.
My curiosity got the best of me, so I had to try it for myself. I’m glad I did, and don’t count it out just yet until you’ve tried the Horchata Café De Olla Cappuccino. That first sip of perfection made me fall in love with coffee all over again.
Since moving back to Bakersfield, I had to find a new coffee shop and had been in search of a deliciously crafted cup of coffee ever since. I was getting tired of the same mundane coffee served at most coffee chains; I needed something different.
I’ve had the opportunity to travel across the world and tried many different roasts of beans, a variety of espresso beverages, and even just a plain old cup of joe, but this… this was different.
All the familiar flavors like mazapán, dulce de leche, chocolate Abuelita, horchata, churro, and many more are offered.
The most popular drinks are the Brown Sugar Macchiato and the Downtown Latte, as stated by the shift lead barista, Valeria Del Toro. Their best-selling food item is the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwich, priced at $6, but her favorite is their new breakfast burrito.
The espresso beverages can be made either iced or hot, with the medium size starting at $5.25. They also offer delicious food as well. I can vouch for that since I’ve tried almost all the food items on the menu and let me just say: they are all nothing short of amazing.
It’s conveniently located in downtown Bakersfield making it a great stop on your way to school.
On top of those amazing qualities, they also have fast service. One thing about going to college, you always want to be on time, and there, you likely won’t have a problem with that.
All their drinks are handcrafted, and with food so tasty and fresh, there is no competition for me. So, give them a try for yourself and see if it truly is the best coffee shop in town.
