Aaron Josef Hernandez was known for his football career but gained more attention when he was convicted for murder in 2015.
Josh Andres Rivera portrays Hernandez in a new Fox series “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez”. The series has a ten-part collection. The first episode was released Sept. 17 and the network releases new episodes every Tuesday.
This is not a documentary, but rather a very dramatic production. The show gives us an insight on the chaos Hernandez experienced with his family, friends, lovers, and the football madness.
Fox presents the show with time jumps. It starts off with an entertaining scene that immediately grips the attention of viewers. With jumps in between scenes there are many brief cliffhangers that will have you questioning what is going to happen.
Besides the intense scenes, the soundtrack is superb. Set in the late 2000s and early 2010s, you are sure to hear many favored throwbacks.
There have been other shows regarding the troubles Hernandez has gone through, but we see Fox portray him in a different way. The show’s depiction of the star is focused on one of his steamiest rumors. This rumor brings a lot of sexual tension to the screen that might not be suitable for all. Rumor or not, it is a conspicuous contribution to the series.
Rivera does a great job in representing the struggles Hernandez faced. Hernandez did allegedly have a substance abuse problem and Rivera acts out these scenes a little too good.
The demons Hernandez has faced have been a real eye opener as it gets us to know the character a little bit better. His trauma does not excuse him from the laws he has broken but perhaps we can have some sympathy for the man.
What Hernandez presumably goes through family wise is maybe a contribution for the man he turned out to be. His personal issues also could have gotten the worst of him.
Of course, the only people who know what really went on would be Hernandez and close people in his life. Sometimes you do have to exaggerate stories to have an audience stay tuned into the program.
