Police suspect Arthur Leigh Allen, a convicted sexual offender, of being the Zodiac Killer. Despite the presence of other suspects, Allen was heavily applied to be the killer in the movie “This Is the Zodiac Speaking.”
The episodes go on from the perspective of family friends of Allen, the Seawater family. Following a string of brutal, horrifying murders, a killer taunts police officers and reporters with coded messages and riddles, asking that they be published in newspapers or risk more killings.
The hunt for who he really is continues to this day. When detectives see that a series of killings that happened before all of this could be connected to the Zodiac Killer, the information found pointed in the direction of one man, Arthur Leigh Allen.
The family is eventually forced to face their doubts as a trove of handwritten letters that had been hidden for decades are made public. These letters provide a never-before-seen glimpse into Allen’s thoughts and, more surprisingly, damaging data.
“This damned thing has been haunting me for 22 years,” said Allen. “If I was prone to suicide, I would have already done it…The only thing in my favor is, I’ve never killed anyone.”
Allen died on Aug. 26, 1992, at the age of 58 in Vallejo California from arteriosclerotic disease which can be caused by high cholesterol or high blood pressure. There has been more evidence pointing to Allen in the past twenty years. A major contributor to this case is Tom Voigt. He began doing his own zodiac killings research in 1995 and interviews with loved ones of the Zodiac Killer victims.
Allen was searched on three different counts of suspicion. Any possible evidence that was found was difficult to trace back to the killer. People will never give up on the Zodiac Killer case. Everyone thinks they have answers on what really happen and who really did it. As of today, the case is still active and there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done.
