After a 28-17 loss to the Allan Hancock College Bulldogs on Oct. 4, the Bakersfield College Renegades were disappointed and reluctant to talk about the game.
“The team feels really down right now,” said Tyler Hawkins, offensive linebacker for Bakersfield.
Bulldog quarterback Chad Nicholson led his team to its win with two quarterback sneaks ending in touchdowns, as well as two successful touchdown passes.
Hancock was off to an early 7-0 lead when Nicholson performed his first quarterback sneak of the evening and kicker Brian Schneider followed it up with an extra point.
Quarterback George Valos helped tie up the game with his pass with 1:35 left in the first quarter. Bryan Sullivan successfully kicked for an extra point.
Both Hancock and Bakersfield scored again creating a tie of 14-14. By half time, the Bulldogs scored again leaving the score as 21-14.
Sullivan punted a 40-yard field goal for the Renegades with 9:30 left in the game to bring the Renegades closer to their competitors with 21-17.
The Bulldogs came back with another touchdown by Nicholson who sealed the victory for Hancock with a final score 28-17.
The Renegades played to the end, but as the final seconds ticked away, the Bulldogs claimed their victory, leaving Renegade players surprised and disappointed.
“I feel like we should have won the game,” said Derrick Hargrove, Renegade tight-end. “I’m just too disappointed.”
