The Bakersfield College women’s golf team placed third with a score of 346 at a conference mini-tournament at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara. The Renegades finished four strokes behind Moorpark, which had a score of 342. Tournament host Santa Barbara came in first with 331.
BC remains in third place in the conference, and will need to finish the season in first or second place to make the conference finals.
BC coach Larry Cook said, “We like our chances … we have some of the best players in the conference.”
Jeong Woo placed the highest for BC, tying for third with an 83.
Sara Ansolabehere, who had tied for sixth and shot an 84. Gloria Wright trailed with a score of 86. The next women’s golf competition is scheduled for Sept. 26 in La Verne.
Soccer
Whitney Jackson scored the winning goal in the final minutes of their game against Oxnard, which led BC to a 3-2 victory on Sept. 16.
The team beat Allan Hancock 4-0 on Sept. 14 and lost to College of the Sequoias 1-0 on Sept. 13.
BC hosts Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. Sept. 23.
Volleyball
Andrea Bookout had six kills for BC in a 30-17, 30-20, 30-24 loss to Ventura. BC will play Hancock at home Sept. 30. On Sept. 10, BC beat Sierra and lost to Delta in the Reedley Tournament.
Cross country
Western State Conference champion Brittany Grimes took first place in the Fresno Invitational at Woodward Park with a time of 18 minutes 54 seconds for three miles. Teammate Clarissa Rivera finished in third place with a time of 19:32.
Christa McCann was the third BC runner to cross the finish line, placing 29th with a time of 21:23. Alexis Vasquez was the fourth BC runner to finish, placing 34th in 21:50.
“I think we will have a good season,” Vasquez said. “I think we have a lot of talent on this team.”
Andrea Jackson came in one second behind Vasquez with a time of 21:51. Other BC finishers were Tanisha Mitchell (22:41), Bethany Lopez (23:00), Amanda Bagnall (24:48) and Cheyenne Pruett (26:09).
The men also did well as Brian Noonan finished 16th overall.
Coach Dave Frickle said of the team: “They’ve been working real hard and the rewards will come. They have a great work ethic.”
Other men’s finishers were Jason Lewis (26th, 21:58), Steven Cavazas (23:04), Jose Magana (23:19), Mike Brasier (23:20), Ian Heifer (23:27), Agustin Hernandez (24:01), Matt Velasquez (24:29) and Marc Hernandez (24:43).
The cross country teams will compete in at the Orange Coast Invitational in Costa Mesa on Sept. 24.
