The Bakersfield College men’s and women’s tennis teams both started their seasons on a high note on Jan. 27 against College of Sequoias.
Both teams posted 9-0 match victories in their openers.
But on Jan. 29, the men struggled while the women continued their winning ways against Fresno City College.
The men played against Fresno City at BC on Jan. 29. Head coach, Regina Csibi-Krueger seemed excited prior to their first home match in a non-league match.
Women’s head coach, Gene Lundquist is excited to be back for his third year with BC. He expects a lot from his team, especially his returning players. That’s why he has scheduled some tough matches to get them ready for league play.
One thing that Lundquist wants to accomplish this season is beating Cuesta College. It is a feat that they were unable to do all of last year. BC women finished with a 13-3 record in last year’s dual match competitions. They finished sixth in all of the state. They defeated every team in the Western State Conference except for Cuesta.
“Cuesta is loaded,” Lundquist said. “It’s going to be a challenge.”
It is a challenge that his team can’t wait to face. With redemption on their minds, the BC women look forward to getting past the only team that had their number last year.
The men are playing in the Modesto Tournament Feb. 5-6 in Modesto, and the women face College of Sequoia in Visalia on Feb. 5 at 1 p.m.
