The last match up of the tournament had BC facing off against Canyons. The team lost 25-21, 25-23, 11-25, and 25-21.
The teams overall record after the tournament is 4-3 with no conference games played yet. BC coach Carl Ferreira spoke about the team’s performance up until this point in the season saying, “Good, we had a very good weekend and we just need to keep playing in order to get better. Training is one thing, understanding how to compete in match situations is a whole different thing.”
Ferreira also noted the team’s struggles. “The biggest thing we got to do is get our setting to be a little bit more consistent to give our point scores a chance, said Ferreira. “We’ve got to score probably about two or three more kills per game on average. We’re right now at about at a 12, we’ve got to be at a 15.”
Ferreira talked more about consistency issues saying, “We got enough opportunities, but we got to convert. We’re passing well enough, setters got to be able to deliver the ball consistently enough so that are scorers can score.”
The team’s stat leaders for the tournament were: Reisa Fessler with 67 kills, 7 service aces, and 20 perfect passes. Brookey Holmes had 53 kills and 28 perfect passes, and Sarah Kurfess had 78 perfect passes.
The team takes on Cuesta at home Sept. 22 for their home opener. After that the Renegades have four road games in a row when they take on Antelope Valley on Sept. 23, Hancock on Sept. 25, Santa Barbara on Oct, and then a rematch against Canyons on Oct. 6.
