The Bakersfield College Women’s soccer team returned to victory after defeating conference rival, Glendale College 1-0, Sept. 29.
Although it wasn’t a very physical game, in the 27th minute of the first half, BC lost one of its best players to an injury, Jessica Crowe, who couldn’t leave the field on her feet.
“She is going to be out for a couple of days. We are waiting for a better evaluation,” said BC’s soccer coach Scott Dameron.
Dameron highlighted the persistence and patience of his team to score the winning goal before an opponent that played very defensively.
“They (Glendale) were trying just to clog up the box and midfield,” Dameron said.
Glendale College played the entire first half focused on defending, and BC dominated and held possession of the ball without any clear chances of goal.
The Renegades had to wait until the eighth minute of the second half to finally reflect, on the score, their dominance.
BC’s forward, Terryn Soelberg, gave the Renegades the lead with her fifth goal of the season.
“We stayed patient. I give the girls a lot of credit for that,” Dameron said.
The Renegades kept pressuring after the goal.
Amber Beckham played midfield last year, but now she starts as a forward along Soelberg. Beckham put the ball twice in the net, but the referee invalidated her goals calling offside. She has scored one goal in this season.
BC’s defense was solid and didn’t allow Glendale College any clear chances for the rest of the game except a free kick at stoppage time.
With the victory the Renegades’ record stays at 3-4, 1-0 in the Western Conference, South Region.
