The Bakersfield College men’s basketball team won the BC Thanksgiving tournament.
BC opened up the tournament with a win against Allan Hancock on Nov. 27.
BC defeated Hancock 89-52, and were led by guard Skylar Vaden with 11points, nine assists, five rebounds, two steals, and 3-6 from the three point line.
The Renegades took on Porterville for the championship game of the tournament. The Renegades defeated Porterville 102-85. The leading scorer for the Renegades was freshman guard Chase Adams with 28 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and 4-9 from the three point line.
After the tournament, the Renegades record stands at 6-2.
Head coach Rich Hughes talked about beating Hancock and then winning the tournament over Porterville.
“We played pretty well both nights. We played a little better on Friday than Saturday, but we still won so it was ok,” said Hughes. “In spots we played pretty good defense, but we just relaxed and allowed for the score to be closer than the game actually was.”
The Renegades are set to play Barstow on Dec. 3 at home, then against Porterville for the third time. The Renegades are 2-0 against the Pirates.
Hughes talked about what the team hopes to do against Barstow, and what the team needs to do to improve.
“We should do well as long as we get up and down the court. I don’t think they are in condition enough to keep up with us,” said Hughes. “Our defense needs to step up and play stronger so we can get our offense in gear.
After the two home games, BC travels to College of Sequoias for a tournament on Dec. 18-20, and to Allan Hancock for a tournament on Dec. 28-30.
