Bakersfield College’s men’s basketball team has a home playoff game scheduled for Feb. 26 against ninth seeded Southwestern College from Chula Vista, in the greater San Diego area.
The Renegades went 23- 5 overall and finished conference play with a 9-3 record. BC is seeded eighth in the Southern California Regionals, and is set to tip off against the Jaguars at 7 p.m. in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
Hughes spoke about the upcoming playoff game.
“It’ll be a great game. You have two teams with 20 wins, and every game from here on out have two teams that usually won their conference and has won 20 games,” said Hughes.
Hughes went on to talk about what he feels his team can do against the Jaguars.
“With everyone, we have to play with some fire, some passion and get our press to create offense for us,” said Hughes. “The last few games we’ve been kind of lack luster, and we can’t be that way in the playoffs or we’ll end up with an ‘L’ and be out.”
If the team gets past Southwestern, there are three teams the Renegades could face in the Final Round of the Southern Regionals. They could face top-seeded San Bernardino, 16th-seeded L.A. Pierce, or 17th-seeded Moorpark. The Final Round starts March 6, and if BC were to win their game they would play away against SBC, or home against either LAP or Moorpark.
Hughes talked about who he thinks will advance to the Final.
“More than likely it will be San Bernardino, so if we win I’ll be down there scouting their game, “said Hughes.
