Bakersfield College’s men’s tennis team is 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Western State Conference.
The Renegades last match was against Ventura College on Feb. 25. BC was defeated 9-0. Nick Jacobs, the team’s No.1 player, was defeated 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 by Ventura’s Rob Diamond.
James Griffin, the No. 2 seed, was defeated by Alexandre Piccin 6-2, 6-3.
According to head coach Regina Csibi-Krueger, Ventura is the top team in the WSC conference.
BC’s first conference game came against Santa Barbara. The Renegades lost the team match 6-3.
In singles matches, the Renegades started with a loss for Jacobs, 6-0, 6-1, but Griffin posted a win against Regis Fastrez, 6-1, 6-7, 6-1. Following Griffin was the third-seeded Matt Booth, who got a win against Alex Zazove, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Booth and Griffin defeated their counterparts from their singles matches 8-4, while Jacobs and fourth-seed Chris Sides lost to Zazove and Zack Scott.
Before the Renegades had their matches in conference, they defeated College of Sequoias and Reedley College, but lost to Fresno City and Saddleback College.
The Renegades also played an invitational tournament at Modesto Junior College that involved singles and doubles flights. Second-seeded player James Griffin won his flight by defeating Nader Zahedi of American River.
Teammate Matt Booth lost in the quarterfinals to Sean Fitzgerald of Santa Rosa.
