The Bakersfield College men’s basketball team lost at Citrus 72-69 on Jan. 18 and dropped to a record of 7-12.
BC had a 17-rebound advantage and shot 48 percent for the game, but Citrus took advantage of their 37 free throw attempts by making 25, while BC only made six out of their 10 free throws.
BC got a good contribution from freshman forward Conroy Lester, who led the team with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Duncan Schramm scored 15 points.
Coach Rich Hughes commented on the team’s performance.
“I think we did well, that was our best road game so far and it happened to be against the number two ranked team in state,” Hughes said. “I was impressed that we never quit when we got down and when you have a losing record players have a tendency to give up.
“I still think we need to improve on being more physical on defense because I still think defense and rebounding is our Achilles heel.”
The Renegades next game is scheduled to be on Jan. 25 at home where they will host East Los Angeles.
