Bakersfield College women’s basketball team started off this year with a 4-1 record and they have been able to continue to keep winning this season to stay in the hunt for the Western State Conference.
They currently have a 10-7 record and 3- 2 in conference play.
BC women’s basketball is currently tied for second in their conference with LA Valley and only one game behind West Los Angeles College. They’ve lost two games straight making tonight’s game against West LA very important.
BC women’s basketball coach Paula Dahl commented on the team
“We’re doing great, they’ve been working hard and I’m just impressed by my kids. This year is so exciting because it might come down to the last game, but these next two weeks will be big,” said Dahl.
She added that they have continued to play as a team even despite some injuries.
“We lost Gabi [Morales] for a couple conference games, but our bench has continued to play great. We’re fortunate that we don’t miss a beat when we sub people. I think we’re the epitome of team basketball,” she said.
She added that they’ve been able to get the best out of the players by keeping it simple and having them committed to one another.
“We’ve been telling them just to work hard, rebound the ball, to fill the floor on the fastbreak and everything else will take care of itself,” she said.
BC’s starting sophomore forward Gabi Morales is leading the team in points with 13.2 per game and rebounding with 11.5 per game. Sophomore starting guard Jausecca Cockeral is leading the team in assists with 6.6 per game.
BC will host West LA College tonight at 5 p.m. They will be playing without the team’s second leading rebounder, sophomore starting center Madison Tarver, who is out with a high ankle sprain.
